Dependent Education Management Resources
Dependent Education Management (DEM) includes lots of useful online resources to help military families navigate moving and changing schools, but since there’s so much information available, sometimes the specific resources you’re looking for can be tricky to find.
To help make navigating the DEM website a little easier, Director Military Family Services would like to point out of few of DEM’s resources, with links straight to the applicable webpages. The following resources may be useful to military families as they prepare for a new posting:
- A guide to homeschooling in Canada (in English), in Quebec (in French) and outside of Canada;
- Information on special education and distance education options throughout the country;
- A summary of the education allowances available through the Canadian Forces Integrated Relocation Program;
- A link to the Charter of the French Language, which outlines the regulations for educating students (including the children of military personnel) in English during their stay in Quebec;
Of all of these resources, the next may be the most useful: it’s a document which summarizes DEM’s wide range of services in straightforward language and an easy to follow format. As you look through the .pdf document, the chart outlining DEM’s responsibilities beginning on page five may prove particularly useful – it breaks down DEM’s services category by category, and includes links to the appropriate references and forms required for each service. Though the document is intended to be a chapter in a reference manual for CF human resources clerks, we think it’s a great reference guide for anyone navigating the transition into new school systems in and outside of Canada.
