Canadian Forces Family Consultations Forum Now Open

Director Military Family Services (DMFS) is keeping the lines of communication open to families throughout this time of transformation. The latest step in our ongoing dialogue with families is the Canadian Forces (CF) Family and Military Personnel Consultations Forum, an online discussion board asking families’ opinions on which of our services are succeeding, and which services they would like to see enhanced.

DMFS first held consultations with CF families in Spring 2008, when a trial family forum on www.centrepointe.info was introduced as a means to gather input on general CF lifestyle topics. In May 2008, the CF Family Services Summit was held to further engage military families in interactive, face-to-face discussions about which programs they would like to see enhanced, and which services require improving. To follow on from these initial consultation opportunities, DMFS is pleased to reactivate the Consultations Forum.

The Consultations Forum will be open at http://mfsp.freepowerboards.com for CF members, families and stakeholders to engage in discussions. Each of the major CF family services enhancement themes – health care, mental health and social support, employment, education, child care, deployment and reunion – are topic categories on the forum. Under each of category, the forum asks questions to help narrow the focus of these general themes, so that DMFS can get to the root of the most important issues for families.

Following this forum, DMFS will continue consulting with CF families and stakeholders through additional Centrepointe discussion forums on CF lifestyle challenges and successes. Look at www.cfpsa.com/dmfs for more information on this next phase in family consultations.

As we continue to work towards change and growth in the Military Family Service Program (MFSP), DMFS wants to ensure that lively discussions are maintained with families. The Consultations Forum is one way for CF families and family service providers to have their voices heard. Canadian/Military Family Resource Centres are encouraged to provide the forum’s web address to anyone interested in participating in this important discussion.

We value all contributions and thank you for your help in keeping families informed about the MFSP during this exciting time.
