Supporting Parents of Single Regular Force Members
November 15, 2006
Parents of single Regular Force members can now benefit from the deployment support services of the Military Family Services Program (MFSP).
While in practice, Canadian/Military Family Resource Centres (C/MFRCs) have never excluded parents from their services, a recent redefinition of the term "family" in MFSP operating procedures now ensures that parents of single Reg Force members have access to all programs and services before, during and after their children's deployment.
With the rise in operational tempo of the Canadian Forces (CF), C/MFRCs and CF leadership have identified the need to provide deployment support services to parents and other primary next of kin.
The MFSP is managed by the CF Personnel Support Agency's (CFPSA) Director Military Family Services (DMFS). By promoting and facilitating community-based military family services, the MFSP enhances the quality of life of CF members and their families and strengthens CF communities, and thus, contributes to the operational effectiveness of the CF.
The program is delivered by C/MFRCs located at CF bases, wings and stations, as well as in some foreign locations. C/MFRCs provide support services to help CF members and their families manage the stresses associated with the unique characteristics of the military lifestyle.
