Maritime entertainers to perform for Canadian troops

CFPSA NR 07-003 - March 13, 2007

OTTAWA, ON A fiery group of Maritime entertainers are travelling north to celebrate St. Patricks Day with the Canadian Forces (CF). As part of the Rock Yer Shamrock tour, the group will visit Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Alert and Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Goose Bay to dance a jig with troops in traditional east coast kitchen party fashion.

Organized by the CF Personnel Support Agencys Show Tour program, the cast will perform three shows for CF members and their families at CFB Goose Bay and one show at CFS Alert, from March 11-24.

Well-known east-coast entertainers, Shelley Chase, Bryon Chase, Stacey Read, Robin Anne Ettles, Alain Bourgeois and Kaliyan Palmer, will perform during the classic kitchen party shows.

Quick-talking Pete Soucy, also known as SNOOK, will emcee the shows, using his stereotypical character of a street-smart corner boy from St. Johns, Newfoundland.

Internationally renowned Grammy Award nominees, Andrew White and Gillian Boucher, bring a touch of Celtic rock. White, who has recorded nine albums, teams up with Boucher, a world-class step dancer schooled in Cape Breton fiddle tradition. Celtic folk group Banshee brings Irish drum, fiddle, whistles, guitar and song to the show. Kaliyan Palmer, of the Palmer Sisters, will make a guest appearance with the Banshees.

St. Patricks Day is almost as exciting as Christmas for Newfoundlanders and Labradoreans, declares Shelly Chase, singer, and producer at Garrison Hill Entertainment. Were really looking forward to spending St. Pattys Day with the troops!

Through the CF Show Tour program, the CF Personnel Support Agency (CFPSA) brings a coveted experience to Canadian Forces personnel serving at CFS Alert and CFB Goose Bay. With an aim to raise morale, CFPSA has a long tradition of providing show tours to CF members serving overseas and in isolated locations. Over the course of a six-month rotation, a CF Show Tour plays an important part in major operations and is always a big morale booster.
