Atlantic region wins 2003 CF Squash Championships
By Kristina Davis

For Lieutenant-Colonel Jo-Anne MacDonald, it was lucky number 13.

Playing in her 13th national event, she took home the gold medal in the ladies' division at the CF 2003 National Squash Championships held April 5-9 at CFB Borden.

Overall, the Atlantic region won the team competition, with 138 points, and two players-Master Corporal Robert Dufour and Lieutenant(N) Ryan Kennedy-took gold in the men's masters and under 30 divisions respectively.

Representing the Ontario region, Captain Khaled El Seweify, in his 12th national event, won the men's open division during an agonizing match-up with LCol Pierre Linteau. Capt El Seweify fought back twice to finally take the match that had spectators vying for a clear view of the action.

Although it was round robin play to determine the top CF team, individual championships were determined by single elimination draws with the winner of the match advancing to the next level. In individual play, seeded players were placed into the draw at either the top or bottom of the ladder and played their way to the final games.
