DECEMBER 12 - Christmas came early for Sergeant Ward Hewitt of CFB Petawawa, after winning a year's supply of free coffee from Tim Hortons, a $200 CANEX gift certificate and 50,000 Club Xtra points, for becoming CANEX's 50,000th Club Xtra member.

"The gift certificates will come in handy for Christmas and the year's supply of coffee is a nice touch" says Hewitt. "I'm looking forward to getting my shiny new mug filled up tomorrow morning at Tim Hortons."

Hewitt received his prizes at the Petawawa's CANEX outlet last week. Jean-Marie Pérusse, CANEX Vice President Merchandise and Services, presented Hewitt with his gifts along with the store manager, the Tim Hortons manager and other store patrons on hand.

"Since launching Club Xtra four years ago, our customer award program has become an instant success with customers," he says. "This celebration marks the 50,000th customer who has signed up. Last month we sent out $183,000 worth of Club Xtra gift certificates to registered members."

Club Xtra is a simple, easy to use plan that gives CF members and their families that extra buying power boost. Customers can instantly receive their Club Xtra cards at their local CANEX and earn points every time they present the card. Twice a year, gift certificates are issued to each registered Club Xtra member for the value of the points accumulated. The program is a part CANEX's overall effort to serve the military community better.

"As a retailer we're unique," says Pérusse. "Not only are we in business to provide our customers with the best prices and services possible, we are also tasked with helping to improve the quality of life for members of the CF community. With that kind of mandate, you have to go the extra distance to provide the best prices and service."

The plan is open to the entire CF community including serving members and their spouses, retired members, members of the Reserve Forces, Non-Public Fund (NPF) and Department of National Defence (DND) employees and their spouses, RCMP members and other authorized patrons.

Customers can learn more about Club Xtra by picking up a brochure at their local CANEX outlet or visiting the CANEX web site at www.canex.ca
