CDCB/BMO Volunteer at Red Shirt Walk/Run Event
It was a sea of red at Confederation Park in Ottawa on June 4, 2010 as over 3,000 Canadian Forces (CF) members and civilian employees of the Department of National Defence (DND) and their families participated in the fourth annual Red Shirt Walk/Run. The event was hosted by the Canadian Forces Support Unit Ottawa as part of Canadian Forces Day celebrations.
Participants walked 3.5 kms or ran 8 kms along Colonel By and Queen Elizabeth Drives to finish at Confederation Park. Upon completion of the race, volunteers from Canadian Defence Community Banking Program, BMO Bank of Montreal and PSP handed out bottled water and fruit.
“It was a great opportunity not only for BMO, but also for the employees to show our appreciation and support for the Canadian Forces,” says Pete Gauvin, Personal Banking Area Manager, Ottawa Metro, BMO Bank of Montreal. “I was very impressed with the strong participation by all ranks.”
Volunteering at the Red Shirt Walk/Run is another way for the Canadian Defence Community Banking (CDCB) program to connect with CF members and DND employees. Through the CDCB program, BMO Bank of Montreal and Canadian Forces Personnel and Family Support Services (CFPFSS) have worked together to develop an enhanced banking program to meet the needs of the Canadian defence community.
