CF Cheer Station Win Includes Donation to MFF & Soldier On
"You can do it!", "You’re almost there!", "You’re looking great!", "Keep it up!"
Volunteers at the Canadian Forces (CF) Cheering Station yelled encouraging words for 5 hours at the Ottawa Race Weekend on May 30. Many lost their voice as they cheered for the over 100 CF athletes competing in the CF National Running Championship and all runners who participated in the half and full marathon.
The CF Cheering Station was one of 9 groups competing to be the best. "It is with great excitement that I announce that we placed 2nd overall in the cheering booth contest," says Mike Doucet, National Sports Manager, PSP Division. This 2nd place win comes with a $1,500 donation to the Military Families Fund and Soldier On programs.
"There was music and people cheering all along the course,” explains Capt Mathieu Brousseau from CFB Shilo who ran a personal best in the half marathon. "I noticed the CF station and it really helped push me along the way."
The Cheering Stations are an important addition to the atmosphere of the Ottawa Race Weekend. "I especially enjoyed the camaraderie of the CF National Championship Team as well as the support from the crowds," remarks Capt Dennene Huntley of CFB Petawawa who finished first in the CF Marathon Female Open category. "They were very loud with their singing, clapping and cheering as the runners passed through their areas. It was quite fun and motivating."
"Its amazing what an enthusiastic crowd can accomplish," says Ryan Cane, Co Cheer Captain and National Recreation Manager. "By showing our Support for the Troops, we can raise funds, spirits and awareness."
Congratulations to all participants!
