• LONG RANGE STRATEGIC PLANNING PROJECT 2030: This initiative has been designed to ensure the development of a long range Strategic Plan for Morale and Welfare programs that will remain both effective and responsive through the coming decades. The methodology will maximize input from key stakeholders and existing social scientific research to determine the type of services, programs and activities that will best fit the needs of the future defence community. The strategy will be implemented through complementary short, medium and long range plans which will include specific, clearly defined goals and associated action items, deliverables and timelines for each activity. The inclusion of a structured monitoring and reporting system will ensure the Strategic Plan remains current and relevant, facilitating a more proactive approach to the overall strategic management through the future decades.

• BASE AND WING COMMANDERS SYMPOSIUM 2010: The Symposium that took place from 27 to 29 April 2010 focused on the following main topics: the financial health of Non-Public Property; the role that everyone has in protecting NPP; interactive sessions on the New Deal implementation; and the imminent 2029 strategic planning. DGPFSS will follow up in all areas and will use this and other forums to keep all involved and informed.

• JOINT PERSONNEL SUPPORT UNIT (JPSU) UPDATE: In 2009, the Minister of National Defence approved the establishment of 19 Integrated Personnel Support Centres (IPSCs) to meet the needs of ill and injured personnel. These sites are now operational with approximately 207 new Full-Time positions across Canada. Approval for the full capability will be sought in May 2010, with the implementation of 5 additional sites to be stood up before the end of March 2011.

• NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL SPORTS: Due to financial restrictions as well as the operational impact of the Winter Olympics, the CF Sports Program witnessed a reduction in activity for the end of FY 2009/2010. The results are limited activities for international sports (CISM) and the rescheduling and cancellation of some National Championships. In particular, all CF Hockey and Swimming Nationals in 2010 were cancelled. Despite the many challenges, both the national and international programs are striving to provide maximum opportunities for our military athletes to compete at their highest potential. Canada will continue to host the CISM Military World Taekwondo Championships that will take place between 14 and 21 July in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, where approximately 250 of the world’s best taekwondo athletes will compete.
