OTTAWA (Ont.) – On Friday, April 23, 2010, CANEX delivered the one of a kind custom 2009 Harley-Davidson® Road King motorcycle to the winner of the Harley for Heroes raffle, Canada’s kickboxing legend Jean-Yves Thériault.
“I am pleased to announce that the Harley® for Heroes raffle has raised $80,000 for the Military Families Fund,” said Gerry Mahon, CANEX President. “We have a long and proud association with Deeley Harley-Davidson® Canada, but the donation of the bike marked a new milestone. It is a great surprise that the winner is Canada’s legendary kickboxing champion.”
A natural athlete, Jean-Yves Thériault often has been described as a kind, intelligent, clean-cut guy. In the ring, he is known as “The Iceman” for his intimidating icy stare and cool demeanour. He won the title of World Middleweight Kickboxing Champion in 1980 and held the title for a record 15 years. Just as amazing is the fact that from June 1976 to December 1995 he knocked out 61 opponents while putting together an impressive record of 69 wins, 6 losses and 1 draw.
“I am honoured to be the winner of this beautiful bike,” said Jean-Yves Thériault. “I am happy to now be referred to as a H.O.G! (Harley Owners Group)”
“We thank Deeley Harley-Davidson® Canada for their generosity and CANEX for their work on the Harley® for Heroes raffle,” says Sandy Gauthier, National Manager Support Our Troops Funds and Outreach. “The Military Families Fund exists only through the generous donations from Canadians. This donation will allow us to continue assisting our military in times of need.”
The Harley for Heroes® raffle was a way for people from across Ontario to show their support for the brave men and women who serve with the Canadian Forces and get a chance to win a one of a kind 2009 Harley-Davidson® Road King® motorcycle donated by Deeley Harley-Davidson® Canada. Proceeds were donated to the Military Families Fund which provides emergency support to help military families deal with unforeseen and often immediate needs resulting from the unique conditions of military service.
